Up Building Products – Builders Merchant Line Marking
This builders merchant line marking project was all about clarity, speed and longevity. At a brand-new warehouse for Up Building Products, we delivered high-visibility pedestrian walkways, zebra crossings and car park line marking using a simple, long-life system: single-part epoxy in two coats with a single-part sealer. The result meets the client’s 5-year lifespan target without bogging them down in technical choices.
We worked out of hours to avoid disruption—completing the walkways in just 4.5 hours—and phased the remaining items around operations so the site stayed on track for opening.
Project Snapshot & Outcome
Client: Up Building Products (builders merchant). Scope: Internal warehouse walkways, zebra crossings to doorways, and external car park line marking (staff/visitor split as specified). System: Shot-blasted prep, single-part epoxy (two coats) + single-part sealer for protection and cleanability. Programme: Out-of-hours install; 4.5 hours to lay the walkways.
Outcome: Bright, crisp routes and bays that are easy to enforce and built to last 5+ years—with minimal downtime for the client.
The Operations Manager’s perspective:
You needed clear walkways and parking that support safe, efficient movements from day one—without dragging you through a maze of coating options. We simplified the choice to a single, proven product that meets your 5-year expectation, installed out of hours so your team could stay focused on opening the warehouse and serving customers.
The net effect is fewer near-misses, faster wayfinding for staff and drivers, and a professional first impression for anyone visiting the site.
Challenges & Solutions
1) Brand-new warehouse, long service life
Fresh slabs and heavy traffic demand a system that looks sharp and keeps its edge for years.
Solution: We mechanically prepared the surface by shot blasting for a reliable key, then applied a single-part epoxy in two coats with a sealer—a simple package that meets the 5+ year goal.

2) Keep disruption to a minimum
The site needed progress without affecting handover and stocking plans.
Solution: We worked out of hours and completed the walkways in 4.5 hours, with zebra crossings and car park elements phased around access routes and deliveries.

3) Simple choices, clear results
The client didn’t want to evaluate multiple coating chemistries and datasheets.
Solution: We proposed a single, proven product sequence (two epoxy coats + sealer) that delivers the performance target—no complexity, just the right outcome.
4) External access & crossings
Door approaches and customer routes needed obvious priority and separation.
Solution: High-contrast zebra crossings at entrances and tidy car park line marking for staff/visitor parking and sightlines, tied into internal walkways.
What We Used & Why (kept simple)
Prep – Shot Blasting: We shot-blasted walkway bands and transition areas to remove laitance and dust and to create a uniform mechanical key—fundamental for adhesion and edge durability.
- Clean, consistent profile for long-term bond.
- Dust-controlled process to protect adjacent stock and equipment.
Coating – Single-Part Epoxy (Two Coats) + Sealer: A straightforward, durable system that provides opacity, abrasion resistance and easier cleaning. The single-part sealer locks in colour and improves resistance to scuffs and routine scrubber-dryer regimes.
- Two coats to achieve coverage and durability targets.
- Edge masking and peel at tack-set for crisp, straight lines.
- Designed to meet the client’s 5+ year service expectation.

Our Out-of-Hours Process
- Survey & plan: Map pedestrian desire lines, doorways and crossings; agree car park layout and legends.
- Mechanical prep: Shot-blast walkway bands and crossing approaches; vacuum and clean down.
- Mask & apply: Tape edges; apply single-part epoxy coat one, then coat two to coverage; apply sealer.
- Reinstate: Remove masking at tack-set for razor-sharp lines; reopen areas in phases.
- Sign-off: Client walk-through; simple aftercare guidance and optional refresh schedule.
Benefits You Keep Long-Term
Clear, durable walkways and crossings make movement predictable and safer, reduce hesitation for drivers and pedestrians, and present a professional look for customers and suppliers. A single, proven coating system keeps maintenance simple and extends the time between repaints.
In short: less disruption, fewer call-backs, and a warehouse that feels ready for business.
