TEMU – Warehouse Line Marking Project (High-Throughput Distribution Hub)
This case study covers our warehouse line marking works for TEMU at a busy UK distribution facility.
The brief was clear: improve safety, flow and pick efficiency with durable, high-visibility markings—delivered to a tight programme with minimal disruption.
Objectives
- Increase pedestrian safety and visibility in crossing points and pick aisles
- Standardise warehouse line marking across zones for faster onboarding and fewer errors
- Create clear pallet locations and marshalling lanes to reduce double-handling
- Minimise downtime via phased, out-of-hours work windows
Our Process
- Survey & layout planning: Confirmed aisle widths, pedestrian routes, forklift turning, dock traffic and fire egress.
- Surface preparation: Shot blasting / mechanical abrading to key the substrate, followed by vacuum extraction and degreasing.
- Masking for precision: High-tack, clean-release tape for razor-sharp edges and consistent line widths.
- Application: Two uniform colour coats (yellow/white) tailored to zone use, then a compatible clear sealer for abrasion and cleanability.
- Detailing: Zebra crossings, keep-clear hatching, directional arrows, numerals and bay IDs via durable stencils.
- Handover & QC: Joint inspection; curing windows communicated; as-built plan provided.
Deliverables
- Pedestrian network: Continuous walkways with zebra crossings at conflict points
- Pallet positions: Clearly numbered, high-contrast boxes to speed pick/putaway
- Vehicle guidance: Forklift lanes, one-way arrows and dock alignment marks
- Safety zones: Keep-clear / emergency access hatching and equipment demarcation
Results
TEMU’s team reported immediate visual clarity in busy areas, smoother marshalling and fewer pedestrian/vehicle near-misses.
The durable system and sealer are designed to withstand heavy traffic, frequent cleaning and tight turnarounds typical of e-commerce operations.
Why This System Works
- Mechanical prep = adhesion: Proper keying prevents premature failure.
- Two-coat colour + clear sealer: Better opacity, abrasion resistance and easier cleaning.
- Precision taping: Crisp edges, consistent widths and professional finish.
- Phased delivery: Maintains throughput while works progress safely.
